Storm Seagulls is a drawing of seagulls flying over a stormy lake. I mentioned it previously in my description of the Red-tailed Hawk portrait - the idea that birds project a feeling of freedom. I grew up in Duluth, MN and there seagulls are THE bird. They are everywhere, and in particular they congregate down at Canal Park. On stormy days they enjoy riding the wind waves in the air and bobbing up and down on the churning waters. If I was a bird, during a storm I would seek shelter. But it seems to me they ENJOY the stormy windy weather. Their feathers getting all scuffled in the breeze, and their bodies being thrown first up, then down and then in circles. So this drawing is about seagulls enjoying stormy weather, despite being blown about in every direction as the wind dictates.
